The State government has decided to provide free textbooks in three subjects to all Class X students in its Madhyamik schools from the coming year as said by Partha Chatterjee, the Education Minister. The state will provide books in first and second languages and in mathematics. The facility has already started this year for Class IX students. The government has introduced providing free textbooks in all seven subjects to students of Class I, III, V and VII in 2013. In 2014, free books in all subjects were introduced for students of Classes II, IV, VI and VIII. Sources in education department said that over 24 lakh students studying in Classes IX and X in over 8,000 Madhyamik schools would benefit from the government plan.
