The high court had asked the government to clarify its stand on admission of children to pre-primary or pre-school classes under RTE. Justice AS Bopanna gave this direction while adjourning hearing on a batch of petitions filed by Vidya Vardhaka Sangha and others.
The petitioners claimed that Article 21-A of the Constitution clearly states that free and compulsory education is for children in the age group of 6-14 years, and there is no reference with regard to pre-primary or pre-school children.
