Gurushiksha-The Annual Oratorical Competition

With the aim to spread the ideals of Guru Nanak Dev, the annual oratorical competition, Gurushiksha was conducted at Guru Nanak College, Velachery. Gurushiksha, in its 3rd edition, was conducted over a period of three days and witnessed over 400 students from 14 different schools and 39 colleges participating. The theme of the event revolved around universal brotherhood of man, oneness of God, communal harmony, casteless society and welfare of communities. In the initial two editions, the college had organised the competition in two categories, Tamil and English. This year, the organizers has included Hindi as the third category. The first day of the event saw students take to the stage and impress the judges in the preliminary round with their speech. The topic of the round was ‘Guru Nanak’s view towards shunning five evils- ego, anger, attachment, greed and lust’. Students were shortlisted for the final rounds after this.

The second day of the event commenced with the traditional langar where food was served to the guests attending the event. The event concluded with the valedictory function. The closing ceremony was attended by the students, faculty members and participants. The winners for each category delivered their award winning speeches for the dignitaries and audience who were present.
