Ganesh Prasad Semwal, PhD scholar, Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar, shares his journey

Just after completing his B.Sc. in Chemistry, Zoology and Botany from HNB Garhwal University, Uttarakhand, Ganesh Prasad decided to look for a job in Delhi. One of his close friends, who was a yoga instructor, told him about his field. Ganesh held a liking for it and after considering the opportunity in this discipline, he decided to go ahead with it.

He pursued M.Sc. in Yogic Science and Holistic Health from Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Later, he worked as yoga instructor with the ministry of health and family welfare for a certain period of time. Afterwards, he joined the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), Delhi. At the institute he observed people suffering from diabetes mellitus, obesity, hypertension, back pain, slipped disc, hyperacidity, indigestion, constipation, sinusitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, stress, depression, anxiety and insomnia. He made up his mind to pursue a PhD to find ways for treating such chronic problems.

As far as career is concerned, Yoga leads to jobs in schools, colleges, universities, spa, yoga centres as well as corporate houses. The government has played a great role by declaring 21st June as International Yoga Day so that it can lead to more permanent jobs and aware people on the importance of Yoga.
