Madhyamik result 2016 is out, but now what? With increasing number of successful students in madhyamik the question of the hour is: Are there enough good schools for prospective students to take admission for plus II?

It is interesting to note that the percentage of successful candidates have increased barely this year , but the exponential growth in the number of candidates appearing for madhyamik   this year is the reason that has led to this surge in the number of successful candidates. This is directly going to add to the competition for admission into good higher-secondary schools as a result of which the admission requirement for good schools in Kolkata ,district towns and the subdivisions and block-level schools are going to shoot up. The only silver lining is the fact that the number of 90%+ scorers overall in madhyamik has shot down by a whooping 12000 candidates.

This year, 90%+ scorers have increased in number for the following subjects:

  • Bengali
  • English
  • Geography

But at the same time, a fall in AA graders has been witnessed in the following subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • Biology
  • History

The number of high schools in West Bengal adds up to 6094 in number. Science curriculum needs laboratory to perform the experiments in the curriculum. According to the notice each govt-funded or govt-subsidized schools should take 225-275 students which in reality lurks around 100 students. In addition to all this, The SSC(School Service Commission) hasn’t conducted any tests for appointing teachers for classes 9-12 rendering numerous vacancies in schools.

Due to the non-occurrence of the SSC exam for the last 4 years, the total amount of vacant positions in these schools has reached the 50000 mark. Thereby, neglecting the regulation regarding appropriate student-teacher ratio, which has increased substantially over the years.
