Ashui Pallimangal Vidyapith in Gopiballavpur saw the cricketing ‘Maestro’ Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar provide Financial Aid to Schools of West Midnapore, in an attempt to bring a little bit of joy to the under privileged children. The ‘little master’ has donated a sum of Rs 20 lakh from his MPLAD funds to construct a two-storey hostel for the 1240 students enrolled at the school. But this is not the first school to have received such a donation. A grant of nearly 76 lakh for the construction of Gobindapur-Makrampur-Swarnamayi-Shasmal Siksha Niketan in Narayangarh was earlier sanctioned by the ‘master blaster’.  However it will be unfair to not mention the role of the headmaster of the school who was the other man batting in this partnership. Mr Tarun Chakroborty, the headmaster, has written letters to five select Rajya Sabha members, which included Sachin and Rekha, seeking the much needed fund for hostels.
Sachin responded on 23rd March with a grant of 20 Lakhs. The proposed hostel will have at least 8 dormitories, covering the 1 bigha plot for the building. Most of the students belonged to poor tribal families. Free food will be served at the hostel and inmates will also be able to save the money needed to travel to the school from distant villages. The managing committee president Krishnagopal Senapati informed that ever since the appointment of the new headmaster, the school has seen floodgates opened for funds, and all of the credit majorly goes to the headmaster’s tireless efforts. He even got 10 lakh donation for expansion of the school building from Mamata Bannerjee while she was on her trip to the district, said Krishnagopal.
When the headmaster was asked for his response on this, he said that Sachin has been a real Santa for them, especially after Uma Soren, Trinamul’s Jhargram Lok Sabha MP, repeatedly refused them. Similar has been Chakroborty’s woes in requesting funds from the backward classes welfare department. As statistics show, Sachin, as of June 8 has sanctioned for Rs 20.67 crore for utilization from his 5 year allocation of 25 crores.
