This year, three candidates from North Bengal have found themselves in a sweet spot of bother. All three of them have one more thing in common other than from being North Bengal—they are also related via a three tie for the 2nd spot in the merit list for the West Bengal Higher Secondary Examination 2016.

Sanjay Sarkar from Jalpaiguri, with an aggregate of 492, has bagged the 2nd position in the HS merit list. Navonil Deb from Koochbihar, is also the 2nd position holder in this years merit list. The third candidate to have tied with the other two for the 2nd position is Swarnava Nandi from Balurghat. All of them are from North Bengal.

Sanjay’s father is so poor that he couldn’t afford to continue his education from his home. So he had to relocate and stayed with this uncle for an year. His uncle was a rickshaw puller by profession, but nevertheless assisted Sanjay in his success. It is terrific how struggling each day to live has not impacted Sanjay’s results even this much. From collecting money to buy him books or providing him with special classes, Sanjay’s teachers have also been part of his struggle. With high flying dreams to become an engineer, Sanjay is now as confident and focused as ever. Although he is well aware of the upcoming challenges but he believes with so many people rooting for him, he just has to pursue his dream.

To keep the huge pressure of studies at bay, Guitar was the ‘go-to’ thing for Navonil Deb. With 492 marks he is tied with Sanjay Sarkar for the 2nd place in the merit list. For a student who has always topped his class, Navonil used to take 5 external tuitions. But his own methodology of study is not to be forgotten. He explained that he never followed any routine, neither was he occupied by books all the time. He studied at his will. Navonil wants to enter IIT to become an engineer.

The third candidate tied with Sanjay and Navonil for the 2nd position in the merit list is Swarnava Dhar. Though Swarnava didn’t get a place in the class X Board exam merit list, but he scored above 94 %.  Assessing from his Pre-Test results, Swarnava was confident of his preparation and was expecting his name to be on the merit list this time around. As with Navonil, Swarnava also dint follow any routine but he did study on an average for 7-8 hours. Elated with Swarnava’s performance, his parents said that all they needed to do was top provide whatever Swarnava needed. The rest of it he managed to do on  his own out of interest. However, Swarnava is the happiest now because he will finally get time to spend with his camera and colours, which he couldn’t indulge himself into during the few months of exam and its preparation.
