Behind every successful man there is a woman. But in case of Puja Majhi, behind her success was not one but two men—her father and her brother. Puja’s father is a Van–driver and her brother works as a daily wage labor. Both of them have toiled and worked hard only to make sure that Puja doesn’t have to terminate her education like they had to. Her father is not even class X pass and her brother had to stop his education after class X. Puja Majhi from Purulia Shree Ramkrishna Mission,scored a 454 in the West Bengal Higher Secondary Examination 2016 with 91 in Bengali,92 in English, 93 in geography, 88 in political science, 82 in Sanskrit and 90 in Environmental science. Her marks in her class X Board exam wasn’t that satisfactory when she got 503. But she more than made it up this time around with her HS marks.
Puja was in tears when her father came home to congratulate her daughter for her excellent score in HS. Even in such an hour of great joy, Puja did not forget to mention the assistance she received from her teachers in every phase such as buying books and guiding her. She mentioned that her father and brother had to sleep empty-stomach after toiling for the whole day so that she can have a home tutor. No wonder dreams come true as it did for Puja’s Father who never let his children feel the void of their mother, who allegedly left them when Puja was just 2 months.
With this success, Puja aims for her next major step. Although she has no idea to afford further education but she aspires to complete her MA after doing graduation in Sanskrit. She wants to be a teacher in the future and teach students of her village. Her dreams though high-flying, seems a distant possibility for her poverty-stricken family who have a hard time managing two square meals a day.
